11th Street Family Health Services (The Center) is a comprehensive, nurse-managed health center run by Drexel University's College of Nursing and Health Professions in collaboration with the Family Practice and Counseling Network. Their mission is to provide quality, comprehensive health services to the clients they serve, with special attention to vulnerable people and residents of public housing units in the 11th Street corridor. They take pride in treating the “whole person” and are recognized as a national model of innovative care. Their success is measured by the solid partnership they share with the community and the thousands of lives they have helped change for the better. Adults and children now have a single point of access for care that addresses both the physiological and psycho-social aspects of the person and family. An expansion of their facilities will help to enhance and diversify the services they provide to the increasing patient needs. The Legacy Foundation provided a grant to The Creative Arts Therapies (CAT) program which is now part of the new facility which opened in the spring of 2014. The funding was put towards the purchase of much needed art supplies, high quality equipment, software, musical instruments and various other materials for their art, music and dance/movement therapy programs. The CAT programs serve the patients/clients by creatively assessing their strengths and discovering new ways to better manage their health symptoms. Giving is Living
The Joseph Fund was established in 2012 by Monsignor Robert McDermott. Its fundamental purpose and mission is to support the Ministries of the St. Joseph’s Pro-Cathedral by raising money for program expansion, capital projects, underwrite any operating shortfall, as well as to promote greater awareness of the Ministries in the community. These ministries are devoted entirely to serving the people of Camden, New Jersey, by responding to the needs of the community. The Joseph Fund Board provides critical funding for expansion and growth, but also provides consultative support to the Ministries’ leaders. The Ministries offer a hand up, not a hand-out, amid a culture of encouragement and confidence in the power of God to help those in need – to give everyone a chance for life fulfillment. The Legacy Foundation provided a grant to the St. Joseph’s Child Development Center, specifically, the “Adopt a Classroom” program. The grant included the installation of “smart boards”, other technical enhancements, new computers and software to a classroom. In addition, funding was provided for the replacement of new playground equipment such as swings, playground safety surface, and a butterfly climber set. To Have Faith is to Have Wings
Angel Flight East is a nonprofit organization comprised of volunteer pilots, ground volunteers and a small staff. Their mission is to provide free air transportation to qualified patients and their families by arranging flights to distant medical facilities, delivering supplies to disaster areas and reuniting families during desperate times. Angel Flight East is Pennsylvania’s first and largest provider of free air transportation for medically needy patients. The pilots not only volunteer their time but their own planes to fly patients to the medical facilities needed for their evaluation, diagnosis and treatment, all free of charge. Infants, children and youth constitute one-half of the patients they transport. In addition, providing transportation of family members is a critical component of their service. The Legacy Foundation provided a grant for their annual Wings and Wheels event held at Wings Field in Blue Bell, PA. It was a community event filled with entertainment, music, food, children's activities, antique cars, vintage aircrafts, model trains and free plane rides. Our grant provided the children’s activities which included the Franklin Institute’s traveling science show, beanie bounce, face painting and the Jumpin’ Jet. This is an annual event held every September to raise awareness for this great cause. For more information, please visit their website at www.angelflighteast.org.
